Mission behind ElephantSkin
With the aim of replacing the disposable plastic glove worldwide, we have launched ElephantSkin gloves. These are virus and bacteria barrier gloves made from reusable & washable materials.
The company is committed to using the most sustainable raw materials possible to provide livable and practical products for the environmentally conscious customer. Natural materials are preferable to plastics, recycled materials are preferable to newly produced ones. Materials with the lowest possible CO2 footprint in production should be used. Transport routes are to be kept to a minimum, and means of transport are to be selected to be as energy-efficient as possible.
Our suppliers must demonstrate compliance with local environmental and social standards. To ensure compliance with social standards in countries outside the European Union, all processes in our supply chain are reviewed and evaluated in accordance with the BSCI standards.
Among other things, the management sets itself the following standards for consistently high quality:
- Customer satisfaction: Together with our customers, we try to implement solutions tailored to our customers on the market. In addition to product development, which is primarily aimed at user-friendly reusable gloves, this also includes efficient logistics processes through to the implementation of new user and washing processes for customers.
- Product quality: Our products are manufactured using only the highest quality and most sustainable materials to ensure the best possible product quality. When selecting our suppliers, we ensure that the highest standards are also met. In addition to ISO9001 to safeguard processes, this also includes the ISO 14001 environmental standard and the BSCI amfori social standard. All products are regularly checked for conformity by accredited test institutes.
- Employee participation: At ElephantSkin, it is important to us to employ people who fully identify with our vision. In addition to technical expertise, what is needed above all is the willingness to break up existing structures and work together as a team on new, sustainable and future-oriented solutions. Through flexible working hours and 100% remote working, we provide our employees with a perfect working atmosphere that is tailored to their everyday lives. Specialist areas should be expressly developed independently in accordance with the company's quality policy. Our philosophy is also reflected in the investor board, where we specifically implement stakeholders from specialist areas that are important to the company.
Piles of plastic waste
The ElephantSkin team sets high goals every year. In the first full business year - 2021 - we saved 2600t of plastic together with our customers! This is equivalent to the weight of 433 adult elephants - that's more elephants than currently exist in the Ivory Coast.
That was just the beginning: our mission goes much further:
It is estimated that 65 billion plastic gloves are currently used worldwide per month. That's a total of 2.2 billion gloves per day!*
According to our calculations, that's 128,832 m3 of plastic waste. To give you a better idea: That's 1571 truckloads of plastic waste per day. ** That's a staggering amount!

**Based on our source above we calculated: 4.4 billion pairs of gloves equals 88 million packages of disposable gloves (size of 5.5 x 12.2 x 24 cm, containing 50 pairs) are consumed in a day and calculated the volume of one packages. Volume of a truckload totals up to 82 cubic meters.
